GLENN HUGHES Believes That JUDAS PRIEST And IRON MAIDEN Will Eventually Be Inducted Into ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

Glenn Hughes believes that JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN will eventually be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Even though artists are eligible for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single, iconic hard rock and metal groups like MAIDEN, PRIEST and MOTÖRHEAD have yet to be recognized by the institution, which inducted GUNS N' ROSES in that band's first year of eligibility.

Having been eligible for induction since 1999, JUDAS PRIEST was on the ballot for this year's class of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, but ultimately didn't clinch the nomination.

Asked in a new interview with Meltdown of the Detroit radio station 101 WRIF which artists he thinks should be inducted into the Rock Hall, Glenn — who got the nod two years ago with DEEP PURPLE — responded (hear audio below): "Well, this is a tricky one for me, because I'm friends now with the president… I'm an ambassador for the Hall Of Fame. In 2016, brother, out of all those bands you saw, I was the only one that was asked to be an ambassador. And I've gone back to the Hall Of Famemany times…

"So, my feeling about who should be and who should not… I'm really good friends with the English dudes, PRIEST and MAIDEN; of course, I think both of those bands will get in," he said. "I think it's gonna take maybe a year or two; I think they'll get in. It took three or four times for PURPLE to get in — maybe three times. Unfortunately, Jon [Lord, keyboards] wasn't there to receive his award.

"It's difficult for me to comment, because there's so many great rock music that had longevity. For instance, BAD COMPANY… FREE hasn't been in there. Paul's one of my dear friends — Paul Rodgers. So, it's bizarre, isn't it? And my friends in DEF LEPPARD, who sold a hundred and sixty million records."

Rock Hall rules state that artists become eligible a quarter century after their first records were released, but the Hall also claims that other "criteria include the influence and significance of the artists' contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock 'n' roll," which is, of course, open to interpretation.

Eligible for induction since 1999, KISS didn't get its first nomination until 2009, and was finally inducted in 2014.

PURPLE was eligible for the Rock Hall since 1993 but didn't get inducted until 2016.
